Soundbox

Year: 2017

Type of project: University

Typeology: Technical detail

Location: London

Soundbox is an installation in Replica transferring the sound from the pedestrians walking outside (in the courtyard) to the people sitting inside (in the bilge space). Here, a “drum” is built under the walkway in the courtyard, directing the sound waves into a cavity inside the wall between the two spaces. For the user sitting against the wall on the inside, the muffled sound will be an ambient noise, much like the sound of water hitting the hull of a boat.
